The kitchen will always be the heart of a home. It is a living space where we welcome guests, sit together as a family or relax after a long day at work. An open kitchen remains popular and is increasingly becoming an extension of the living room. All great reasons for ensuring space is created as efficiently as possible!

Before starting to equip your kitchen, you should think about your cooking habits. Do you love cooking and regularly spend time at the hob, or do you prefer to knock something up quickly? Do you shop once a week or go to the shops on a daily basis? By taking personnel preferences into account, you will create a kitchen that is perfectly tailored to you.

Cutlery, cooking equipment and products that are used frequently should be close to hand. They should be stored at an accessible height, ideally between knee and shoulder height. This means less bending or stretching.

Fully extending drawers offer a good overview and easy accessibility to the contents; you'll even be able to reach the tins at the back.

TIP: Divide your kitchen into five zones to save time and maintain order.

  • "Provisions" zone: store the food here and make sure it's easy to access. Your fridge should be placed here too.
  • "Non consumables" zone: glasses, cutlery and plates are stored in this zone. The closer to the dishwasher, the better.
  • "Cleaning" zone: here, you have the dishwasher, sink and all of the items relating to washing up and waste
  • "Preparation" zone: between the sink and the hob, there is the preparation zone. Create adequate space for a large cutting board and preparing all of your ingredients. This zone, the main workspace in the kitchen, is at least 90 cm wide.
  • "Cooking" zone: near the hob, all of your pans, pots and kitchen cutlery should be within easy reach.

All of the items that you need are kept together, in the right place. This limits the distance that you have to cover when cooking. These zones which are required during preparation, connect into one another. For example, you take your vegetables out of the fridge, wash them, chop them and then cook them.

These zones can be applied in all kitchens, irrespective of size or shape.

TIP: Would you like to redesign your existing storage areas? Then go for wider, higher and deeper drawers. By choosing a wide drawer instead of two small drawers, you gain about 15% of storage space.
