'Consumables' zone
The 'consumables' zone is where food can be stored. Good accessibility should be taken into account during the planning.

It is important as early as the kitchen planning stage to take account of personal cooking habits. For example, it can be decided which work surfaces are necessary. By arranging everything according to zones, every item can be in reach where it is needed.
The 'consumables' zone is where food can be stored. Good accessibility should be taken into account during the planning.
The 'non consumables zone' is the place for cutlery, plates and glasses. It is also practical if the dishwasher is also placed near this area.
The dishwasher and sink are situated in this zone. Space also needs to be provided here to store detergent, sponges, etc. A sink drawer below the sink creates the ideal storage space in this respect.
All utensils for preparing food can be found between the sink and the hob. Everything in the larder units is always to hand and close to the work surface.
Pots, pans and cooking utensils receive their place close to the hob.
These five kitchen zones can be applied in every kitchen, regardless of the shape and size. For right-handed people, the consumables, non-consumables, cleaning preparation and cooking zones are in a clockwise arrangement. For left-handed people it is the other way around. As such, the zones can be quickly passed through during cooking, and walking distances are limited. Everything can be found in the spot where it should be used.
